Episode Cats111

From Countdown

Episode Cats111, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 17, Episode 6 was a special episode broadcast on 15 February 2019, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 17.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Joe Wilkinson and Harriet Kemsley who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Joe Wilkinson, winning by 46 – 40 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown recorder.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was James Veitch, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, an old car which Joe claimed was his was driven onto the studio, only for a completely naked man which was "kidnapped" to come out of the boot and run across the studio, resulting in his private parts being censored on-screen. Later, Jon handed Harriet a script for her to read, which actually consisted of many famous lines from different movies combined to the point it didn't make any sense, causing the latter to burst out in laughter.

2) In Round 1, owing to Joe's sarcasm of wanting an additional Z, Rachel rotated the N to make it look like one. Also, during the 30 seconds in Round 1, Jimmy used an enlarged fly swatter before using the "Fly Zapper 3000" to kill a fly which ended up creating a "burnt hole" in the ODE3.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Jimmy had a ring stuck to his finger and requested Rachel to pull it out, albeit she "extended" his hand to the point it reached the centre of the studio and left it there, forcing him to "retract" it by himself.

4) In Round 7, the clock music was replaced by a salsa-styled music with two pairs of dancers dancing in the centre of the studio and Jimmy provided the accompaniment with shakers. Also, despite Joe misdeclaring, Rachel's unscrambling saw Sean assist him by spotting LAPDOGS, thus points were given to his team at Jimmy's discretion.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: For reasons unknown, this was the only episode to have never been made available to watch on the show's webpage via Channel 4's website since its original broadcast. It is now unlikely to ever appear on the show's webpage due to James Veitch being accused of sexual misconduct in September 2020.
