Episode Cats135

From Countdown

Episode Cats135, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 21, Episode 6 was a special episode broadcast on 18 February 2021, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 21.

Acting Team Captain Lee Mack and Regular Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Katherine Ryan and Joe Wilkinson who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Lee Mack, with the assistance of Katherine Ryan, winning by 41 – 31 in a 7-rounder and they won Countdown condiments which were bottles of ketchup, mustard and barbeque sauces.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was The Brett Domino Trio, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jon made fun of several shows by renaming them to "Last Dates", "Very Strictly Come Dancing", "The Island with Bear" and "I'm a Celibate...Get Me Out of Her!" (A play on First Dates, Strictly Come Dancing, The Island with Bear Grylls and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! respectively). Later, Joe, along with several crew members proceeded to kick his "friend" Chris' crotch in the centre of the studio which made Jimmy felt awkward.

2) In Round 2, noticing that Joe cheered when he saw the original target of 125, Rachel pressed CECIL to generate 318, another easy target before pressing once more for the final target of 534. Also, Lee did not explicitly show to Jon that he had the same solution as Joe's but was given the benefit of doubt by Jimmy.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, "Jimmy" performed acrobatic stunts with two sticks on fire in the centre of the studio before extinguishing them with his mouth. Also, S'mores were presented to all the celebrities.

4) In Round 5, Katherine, Joe and Rachel were given special VR Goggles which made whatever they were seeing upside down. This caused Rachel to accidentally pick a vowel (a U which was thrown out) rather than a consonant, misplace the T and second E on the second row while Katherine and Joe had much difficulty in coming to the centre of the studio to play the round. Points were only awarded if the words were written on the big vanguard sheets given to both players and during the 30 seconds, a view of what all three were encountering was shown to the viewers.

5) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, Jimmy "built" a bookcase from IKEA, only for it to structurally fail when the declarations were being made and causing most of the items on it to break into pieces.

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE: This was the last new episode to air before the death of Sean Lock.
