Episode Cats138

From Countdown

Episode Cats138, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 22, Episode 2, was a special episode broadcast on 14 January 2022, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 22.

The Team Captains were Jack Dee and Jon Richardson, their teammates were Tom Allen and Judi Love respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Judi Love, winning by 42 – 27 in a 7-rounder and they won a Countdown harmonica.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr John Cooper Clarke, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Just before Round 5, all players had to compose a poem for Dr John Cooper Clarke to hear and he would choose who had the best one. He felt that everyone's poem was equally good, thus five points were awarded to both teams.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jon had a book called "Superdad" in an attempt to teach kids about a harsh reality such as Climate Change and having a Risk Assessment Table within it, while Jack had a bouncy castle as his prop which was placed at the far corner of the studio and then inflated. In addition, Rachel referenced Susie's Origins of Words in Episode 7564 which discussed about castor oil and how it related to a beaver's sacs.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Jimmy "made" a huge Malteser, to which Tom offered to break it up using his hammer from his tool belt. Later, the contestants were all given huge Maltesers in the form of different shapes; Tom had a Crème Egg, Jack had a Turkish Delight, Jon had a shirt button and Judi had a bar in the form of Twix.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, an uncredited female voice narrated a fan letter which was purportedly from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) addressed to Jimmy.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: In Round 6, Judi declared both her words to be six letters long but were only in fact, five letters long, something which was overlooked by Dictionary Corner. However, this would not have affected the outcome of the game as Tom had a valid six-letter word.
