Also, although he declared he got the target without any working, the benefit of doubt was given by Jimmy and 10 points were awarded to both teams. It can be assumed he used the same method as David.

However, the ending notes of the piece were slightly off-key and the players were not credited.

Episode Cats72, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 11, Episode 7 was a special episode broadcast on 5 November 2016, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 11.

Acting Team Captain David Mitchell and Regular Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Cariad Lloyd and Russell Howard who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Russell Howard, winning by 53 – 31 in an 7-rounder and they won a Countdown spray tan kit which was a tent with very high height.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Sam Simmons, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Just before Round 5, Jon and Russell were invited to play "Mr and Mr" (a play on Mr and Mrs) in which Russell was tested about Jon's personality. Russell got all three questions right, thus five points were awarded to their team. (Note that because only their team was playing, if Russell answered two or all three questions incorrectly, the bonus points would have gone to David's team.)

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, Jimmy, unable to reach Rachel who was drinking a fruit cocktail, enlisted the help of Fabio and another model to use a long straw to suck the cocktail from her at a faster rate to the point he ended up drinking much more than her.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 2, Jon's model houses emitted smoke, forcing him to use a fire extinguisher to stop the "house" from burning which forced Cariad to wear a mask (Although she was seen doing that before any sign of smoke occurred.) Also, although he declared he got the target without any working, the benefit of doubt was given by Jimmy and 10 points were awarded to both teams. It can be assumed he used the same method as David.

3) In Round 3, Russell was seen doing the round with Jon even though he was not supposed to officially play until he was spotted by Jimmy and shredded his paper; his word was the invalid moith ☓ (MOIST with a lisp).

4) Jimmy asked all four players to play Round 4 even though that is not the standard practice because he didn't think Cariad and Russell were very good at maths.

5) In Round 5, after Sam hilariously saw an invalid seven-letter word arsepic ☓, Susie gave him the Pencam which he stuck it up his buttocks by pulling down his pants much to the disgust of everyone in the studio.

6) In Round 6, the clock music was replaced by a symphonic version of that piece with 11 orchestra players (a conductor, two violinists, one violist, one cellist, four oboists, one bassoonist and one trumpeter) coming from all parts of the studio and walked to the centre with the exception of the trumpeter who stood just in front of the clock and finished off the piece with Jimmy blowing into a tuba. However, the ending notes of the piece were slightly off-key and the players were not credited.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: In Round 1, Cariad's offering of NOSER should have been allowed as it is in the ODO. However, the scores would not have been affected as Russell offered a longer word.

Portions of this episode were sampled in both 2020 Christmas specials and the 8 April 2021 episode of Meet the Richardsons.
