Revision as of 14:08, 11 November 2018

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 14, Episode 6 was a special episode broadcast on 29 December 2017, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 14. This was the 2017 Christmas Special as well.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Joe Wilkinson and Catherine Tate who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Catherine Tate, winning by 41 – 30 in an 7-rounder and they won a Countdown Christmas "pudding", which was an enlarged inedible model.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Joe Lycett, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

In view of the Christmas spirit and theme, the same choir which sang Christmas Carols in 2015 and in 2016 was here again to replace the standard Countdown Clock Music for Round 1 (Merry Christmas Everybody), Round 4 (Stay Another Day) and Round 6 (Jingle Bell Rock).

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jon was featured in several "bloopers" in the "8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on the NightTube", including an outtake in 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 13, Episode 3 where the selection was WANKSHAFT and in Round 5 of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 14, Episode 4 where Jon spilled yogurt onto his shirt and face. He would later cheekily show off the DVD Cover just before the end of Round 2.

2) In Round 2, Catherine foolishly believed Jimmy that she did not had to do that round and as such, missed the target although she drew a blank when declaring her answer.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, the clock music was replaced by a piece of symphonic music and Jimmy skated in the centre of the studio where he pretended it was an "ice ring". The Countdown table lights also turned light blue to represent the coldness and ice.

4) During the 30 seconds in Round 5, the clock music was replaced by the Star Wars Opening Theme music and BB-8 went out onto the stage and Jimmy and Joe making fun of it. This was a reference to the recent release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the time.

5) In Round 6, as Joe and Sean only said they wanted letters without being more specific, Rachel alternated between consonants and vowels for the selection.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: The conundrum had two valid solutions: STAINLESS and SALTINESS.
