Episode Cats98, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16, Episode 2 was a special episode broadcast on 20 July 2018, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Katherine Ryan and Joe Wilkinson who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Joe Wilkinson, winning by 45 – 31 in an 7-rounder and they won a Countdown basketball net complimentary with two basketballs.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr John Cooper Clarke, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Just before Round 5, all players had to compose a poem for Dr John Cooper Clarke to hear and he would choose who had the best one. He felt that Joe's poem was the best, thus five points were awarded to his team.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the introduction, Jon enlisted the help of three people with reference to the controversial gameshow Naked Attraction and revealed what they looked like based on their socks. When it came to the last person, he was not wearing his shorts, exposing his private parts and as a result, it had to be censored on screen.

2) In Round 2, Sean was not asked to present his solution, however it can be assumed it was identical to Katherine's solution.

3) In Round 3, the third letter was originally a Q, but was thrown out by Rachel before anyone commented and replaced with a T. Had that not happened and assuming the alternation between vowels and consonants remained as Sean did not specify what he wanted, the maximum would have been worth only seven points, one point less. Also, during the 30 seconds, Jimmy "made" sculptures of all the celebrities by inflating and tying balloons. After the Round, annoyed that Sean beat him, Joe swiped his sculpture onto the floor.

4) In Round 6, the final letter was selected by Rachel at Katherine's request. Also, the clock music was replaced by an 80s-style aerobics music. Five people dressed in line with the theme and with Jimmy, then danced to the tune in the centre of the studio and with the Countdown table lights glowing in different colours according to the beat of the music.

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
