Janet McRae was the runner-up of Series 12 in 1987.
She was a housewife from Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire. After winning 2 heats, she returned for the final rounds as #7 seed, beating Cathy Morgan via a very easy sudden death conundrum (RMADILLOA) in the quarter-final which gave her an opportunity for revenge against Matthew Francis in the semi-final. Francis had ended her run in the heats by pipping her on the conundrum, and history looked to be repeating itself in the semi-final when, with McRae again leading, he buzzed in after 1 second on the conundrum LEGALTIES. However, to McRae's relief, he offered LEGALITIES which was wrong, and she ran out the winner. In the final against Stephen Balment, a mistake in the final numbers game cost her a chance at a crucial conundrum, and she lost 81 – 66.
McRae did not play in Championship of Champions III, but did play in the Supreme Championship, losing in the first round to Damian Eadie.
