John returned for the quarter finals, where he overcame a slight first-part deficit to run out an easy victor over Steven Moir. However, Paul Gallen on irresistible form was waiting in the semifinals, the 108 – 47 scoreline not reflecting John's ability at all.

John returned for Championship of Champions XII where he drew the short straw of Conor Travers in the first round. Despite putting on an impressive showing, John could not match the scoring power of Conor, resulting in the 124 – 91 loss.
