John Hunt was the #4 seed in Series 52, amassing a total of 778 points during his octochamp run. His debut on 14th October 2004 saw him overcome Carol Joy with relative ease. 4 centuries came in the following 7 games, the highest of those being a 117-36 deconstruction of Arif Walla for his 7th win.

John returned for the quarter finals, where he overcame a slight first-part deficit to run out an easy victor over Steven Moir. However, Paul Gallen on irresistible form was waiting in the semifinals, the 108-47 scoreline not reflecting John's ability at all.

John returned for Championship of Champions XII where he drew the short straw of Conor Travers in the first round. Despite putting on an impressive showing, John could not match the scoring power of Conor, resulting in the 124-91 loss.
