Appearences

Heat Games

He first appeared on Countdown in the very first game of Series 41, beating incumbent champion Bobby Johnson 80 – 12 in what was seen by many as a phenomenal debut performance. He went on to become an octochamp with an aggregate score of 510 (an average of 63.75), the third-highest of the nine round era.

Finals

He beat Simon Cooper in a closely-fought final on Christmas Day 1999. A good selection in Round 1 meant that Simon stuck with an eight = MORALIST, whilst Scott tried a nine. His niner, MORTALISE ☓ was disallowed. "It sounds like a word," agreed Richard and the dictionary corner guest for that episode. However, his genius with 6 small numbers saved the day, and stole the lead from Simon in Round 3. When he got the conundrum PIESNMASH (answer:MISSHAPEN), he led by 18 points. Poor letters from there on meant the rest of the game was uneventful, but Scott won by just 8 points, after Simon got the last numbers game and the conundrum PARTYNITE (answer:PATERNITY. This epic win meant that he got a bye into the semi finals of Championship of Champions X. The final score was Scott 81 – 73 Simon.

Championship of Champions X

He returned the following week for Championship of Champions X, going on to beat Kate Ogilvie in the final. Both him and Kate started with LAUGHS. He then solved one of Kate's numbers games, plus his own selection (you guessed it - 6 small numbers), and his greatest moment, where he unravelled MUDHUTLOO in one second. The answer was LOUDMOUTH. He became only the fourth person to win the championship of champions unbeaten. He came under pressure in round 9 where his niner, DIOSTORTER ☓ was disallowed. Kate missed TORRIDEST, so Scott still led (53 – 34). These mistakes by Kate meant he got an unassailable lead by Round 12. He took 7 points of the numbers game, and apparently, relaxed for the conundrum, UGREATONE (answer:ENTOURAGE). He was the fourth grand slam winner (undefeated in the heats, finals and Championship of Champions) after Harvey Freeman, Nic Brown and Don Reid.

Special Episode

He later returned to play a special game against Championship of Champions IX winner Natascha Kearsey, losing the game 109 – 100 and his undefeated streak along with it.

As Scott was in the champions' chair, he could not take advantage of his 6 small number genius, despite getting his 6 small number choice, but Natascha Kearsey took the lead and held it - then Scott got another word disallowed - DOUCHAL ☓, but his conundrum genius gave the misleading impression it was a close game.

Ironically, he had a conundrum reference in his special - SCOTTWHAP, which, unsurprisingly, he solved - STOPWATCH.
