Steve Williams was a semi-finalist from Series 16 in 1988.

A computer programmer, he beat Frederick Sellers in his first appearance, and won seven more games to become an octochamp and #1 seed for the final rounds. He beat Gareth Hughes in the quarter-final, but was beaten in the semi-final by Roger Wales.

Williams returned for Championship of Champions IV, and beat Hilary Hopper in the first round before losing to Tony Vick in the semi-final by way of a sudden-death conundrum. Williams' losing score of 70 remains to this day the joint-highest losing score of the 9 round game.

Williams did not take part in the Supreme Championship.

Earlier in 1988, he took part in the first series of Fifteen to One. In 1992, four years later, Steve won "Mastermind" with the specialist subject of Pre-Socratic Philosophy.
