Howard Somerset was left-handed, which possibly explained his tendency to spell his name backwards on occasion.
He never appeared on Countdown, but attended four of the COLIN events and the first two CONOT tournaments. Sequence of wins started as an oscillating sequence 1 in COLIN 2007, 2 in COLIN 2008, 1 in CONOT 2008, 2 in COLIN 2009, 1 in CONOT 2009, and then finally broke the pattern with 3 in COLIN 2010. He wondered whether this was in indication of a very slow upward trend, or whether the amplitude of the oscillations is slowly increasing, thereby suggesting zero wins at his next Co-event, but sadly he would never attend another one.
Somerset appeared on the programme on 26 April 2010, when from his position in the audience, he answered the conundrum.
Somerset died in 2020.
