Championship of Champions IX ran from 29 December 1997 to 16 January 1998, and was won by Natascha Kearsey. It was the first CoC to feature sixteen contestants as opposed to the previously standard eight. These sixteen contestants were drawn from Series 34 through 37, comprising the champions, runners-up and semi-finalists of each. With these four series having collectively covered only one year, CoC IX had the smallest "catchment area" of all Championships of Champions.
