Episode 1004 was broadcast on 3 July 1990, as part of Series 20.

Liz Barber played David Morris, with Liz Barber winning 58 – 33. The Dictionary Corner guest was Richard Stilgoe, and the lexicographer was Della Thompson.

This was the first show to feature the Futura font for the letters and numbers, which remains in use today.
