Episode 50 was broadcast on 13 May 1983, as part of Series 2.
Ruth Lowy played Gary Roussak, with Gary Roussak winning 48 – 28. The Dictionary Corner guest was Gyles Brandreth.
This was the first known episode in which it was possible to make a 9 letter word in 2 rounds, and also the first time it was possible to make a 9 letter word in the opening round. The maximum possible score of 77 is the highest recorded under the old rules, under which a 9 letter word was only worth 10 points, rather than the modern day 18.
Round 2 is one of only two known rounds in history to have featured two Zs, and the game as a whole contained three Zs, an extremely rare occurrence.
