Episode 53 was broadcast on 19 May 1983, as part of Series 2.
Bobbie Bennett played Maureen Kelly, with Maureen Kelly winning 42 – 23. The Dictionary Corner guest was Gyles Brandreth.
Kelly's declaration of DEPILATES in Round 2 is the earliest known instance of any player declaring a nine-letter word, as well as the only known instance in which, pursuant to the game's original rules, a player received only 10 points instead of 18 for spotting a nine.
It is extremely unlikely that COMMUTERS would ever be used as a conundrum again on account of it being an -S plural.
