Episode Cats2, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Mashup: The Rematch was a special episode broadcast on 24 August 2012. This was a rematch, following on from 8 Out of 10 Cats Do Countdown, broadcast on 2 January 2012. This was also the second of two pilots taped before the show was officially commissioned.

8 out of 10 Cats regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants again, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Clarke Carlisle, winning by 50 – 41 in the show's first ever 10-rounder, which was also the first show to have three Teatime Teasers.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was David O'Doherty, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Halfway through the match, Sean and Jon were given extra teammates for the second half of the show, with Sean joined by Series 62 contestant and "Britain's Brainiest Footballer", Clarke Carlisle, and Jon was given Joe Wilkinson, who in Round 5, became the show's first ever male arithmetician, when he took over doing the numbers, when Rachel Riley was asked to help out Sean.

The show was also notable for its random method of alternating letters and numbers picks. Jon picked Rounds 1, 3 and 4 while Sean picked Rounds 2 and 5. Rounds 6 and 9 were picked by Sean and Clarke, while Rounds 7 and 8 were picked by Jon and Joe.
