8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 11, Episode 8 was a special episode broadcast on 24 December 2016, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 11. This was the 2016 Christmas Special as well.
Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Kathy Burke and Russell Howard who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.
The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Russell Howard, winning by 43 – 18 in an 7-rounder and they won a Countdown "Build Your Own Snowman" kit.
Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Joe Lycett, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent. Joe Wilkinson also made a special appearance on the show just before Round 5 dressed up as Santa Claus, not before being "beaten" up by a group of teenage hooligans and ending up "bloodied" and "battered". He also made a cocktail for Rounds 5 and 6 before asking Rachel Riley to taste in Round 5 and gulping down himself in Round 6.
In Addition, in view of the Christmas spirit and theme, the same choir that sang Christmas Carols in 2015 was present to replace the standard Countdown Clock Music for Round 1 (Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree), Round 4 (I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday) and Round 5 (Last Christmas). (Tragically and by unfortunate coincidence, a day after the show was broadcast, the original singer of "Last Christmas" George Michael passed away.)
Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:
1) In Round 1, while Jimmy was busy asking for everyone's declaration, Kathy spotted the six-letter word DOINGS in between. Although this is technically cheating, points were still awarded to their team in view of the Christmas spirit.
2) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Jimmy wrapped himeslf with Christmas lighting to the point his face was totally covered and inserted the plug to turn them on. To aid this, the panel lighting was dimmed when the Christmas lighting came on.
3) In Round 4, noticing how Joe was eager to present the solution, Rachel asked him to narrate his method which is shown as below.
4) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, Jimmy shaked a snowglobe which caused "snowflakes" initially and "snowballs" eventually to drop from the ceiling of the studio and surprising the celebrities. Joe wanted to hit a "snowball" using his "arseracket" which he termed and did it after Sean Lock threw him one. (The snowball drop was not unique as it had been previously featured in 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 10, Episode 5.)
NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
