Matthew Shore was the runner-up of Series 54.

He first appeared on 17 February 2006 where he beat Alexia McCluskey 109 – 55. He won his next seven games including scores of 116, 115 and 126 to become an octochamp with an impressive total of 850 points. He returned for the final rounds, where he defeated fellow octochamps Michael Bowden and Jon Corby on a crucial conundrum In the final he faced #1 seed Conor Travers and for the second time in history, two octochamps with at least 850 points each faced off. Travers was impressive with spots like NEMESIS, POLONIES and HETAIRAS which meant that Travers won the game without having to face a crucial conundrum.
