Dr John Cooper Clarke is a guest on Countdown. First appearing on the 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown spinoff, he later made his début on the regular show in March 2023, during Series 87. He is a performance poet, and makes regular appearance on TV panel shows and earned his doctorate in July 2013 from the University of Salford.
Notably, in all of his 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown appearances to date, all contestants have been asked to write a poem individually for him to listen to and he would then pick his favourite out of the lot.
