Norman Painting (1924-2009) was a guest on Countdown. From the first episode, he played the role of Phil Archer in the BBC Radio 4 soap The Archers, and under the pseudonym Bruno Milna, was one of the scriptwriters for the programme.
He died on 29th October 2009.
