Countdown is broadcast by Channel 4 at 15:25 on Mondays to Fridays most weeks throughout the year. The usual exceptions are during public holidays, when times might vary, and during the Christmas / New Year break and the Cheltenham Festival and Glorious Goodwood race weeks when the programme is suspended. Since 2008, the programme has also taken a four week break during the summer and at Christmas.
In addition to all of the +1 channels, most programmes are repeated twice:
- early morning on Channel 4 at around 5 a.m, about 40 hours after first transmission
- on S4C (analogue terrestrial channel only) at 14:15 on Monday to Friday afternoons
From the start of Series 62, S4C is one episode behind the first Channel 4 showing.
The early morning Channel 4 repeat, which was dropped for the latter stages of Series 61, is reintroduced from the start of Series 62.
