Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from Round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Vic Reeves, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
NOTE 1: In view that this episode was an 80s special, the episode began with a "flashback" of Jimmy having a tour of the Countdown studio in the 80s (Albeit without any mention of the late Richard Whiteley or Carol Vorderman). Coupled with that, the title sequence mashed-up was that of Countdown's opening between 10 July 1989 to 29 March 1991, from Series 18 to Series 21. However, the original music was replaced with that of the current music used since New Year's Day 1996.
NOTE 2: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
