David Stainer

David Stainer was a contestant in Series 47.

He pipped Peter Coutts by just two points in Coutts' eighth game, and went on to make three centuries before losing to Cyril Cohen.

A solicitor, in 2003, he was invited back to play fellow solicitor Simon Cobb in a special episode.

He has appeared on several other quiz shows, most notably University Challenge (as the captain of the Oriel College, Oxford team that finished as runners-up in the 1998-99 series), BrainTeaser, Fifteen to One, 100%, One To Win, Grand Slam, Only Connect (as the winner of the first series in 2008, and two Champion of Champions specials), Cleverdicks and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, winning £64,000 in the last of these. In 2019, he won the 66th series of Brain of Britain and, in 2021, he won the "Brain of Brains" title. He has also taken part in the British, European and World Quiz Championships on numerous occasions.
