The Association of British Scrabble Players is an association that regulates Scrabble in the United Kingdom. While not directly related to Countdown, the producers of the first Series went to Scrabble leagues to find players that were already adept at finding words from letters. Thusly, the first ever Countdown champion was an ABSP player, Joyce Cansfield. Since then the ABSP has continued to supply great players, most recently Series 57 champion Craig Beevers who is currently ranked in the top 20 out of about 1000 rated players.
