Cecil Korer
From Countdown
Cecil Korer was a veteran TV producer (Ask the Family, It's a Knockout!). He was appointed Channel 4's first head of light entertainment by Jeremy Isaacs, in which role he served for little more than a year (and by Isaacs' own admission, with a paltry budget), but was responsible for commissioning several of the channel's early hits including Countdown, as well as Treasure Hunt — both shows being based on French originals. His role in bringing the show to the screen is commemorated in the name of Countdown's random number generator, CECIL.
Korer died aged 86 on 13 October 2011.
