Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a guest on Countdown. She is a musician who started out as lead singer of an indie-rock band called Theaudience, before finding much greater fame as a solo artist.
During the lockdowns by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, she briefly returned to prominence with her viral kitchen disco videos. After the release of Saltburn, her 2001 single of Murder on the Dancefloor was used that gained her a resurgence in fame and made her return to the performing scene. She replaced Ncuti Gatwa in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest as the United Kingdom's spokesperson.
She is the daughter of writer and presenter, Janet Ellis.
