Barrett made his debut immediately after Cillian McMulkin became the first octochamp of 2023. Seeing off six opponents, Barrett lost his seventh game on a crucial conundrum despite having led the match by 25 points. But his six wins eventually saw him through to the series finals as he became the No. 8 seed. In the first quarter-final match, he was eliminated by Ronan Higginson but registered a very respectable score of 70 and also bowed out by spotting MUNICIPAL in the conundrum round. Barrett obtained a final total of 643 points.
