The Countdown App is an application allowing you to play Countdown on Apple or Android devices, without an internet connection. It currently costs £1.79 on Apple and £1.99 on Android.
It includes the classic letters rounds, numbers rounds and conundrums. The following three game modes are available:
- New 15 round format
- Quick Play — 5 rounds, played to LNLNC
- Practise — Play single rounds of letters, numbers or conundrums
The first two game modes can be played in the following ways:
- Single player
- Against easy, normal, hard or expert CPUs
- 2 player — Play against another person on the same device
You can also view statistics for each player, including high scores.
However, there are a few downsides to the app that make it inferior to Apterous, such as:
- Very outdated dictionary, so valid words may be disallowed and invalid words may be accepted.
- No time to submit words or number solutions after the 30 seconds.
- Conundrums may have invalid or multiple solutions.
