Ernie Wise was a guest on Countdown. He was a comedian who was best known for being half of the double-act, Morecambe and Wise. He made twelve appearances in total between Series 19 and 20 by which time, Wise had all but retired from the entertainment business. One anecdote he told in Dictionary Corner, was related to the time a fan came up to him asking if he used to be in Morecambe and Wise. On confirmation, the fan asked "was it you or the other one that died?"
He sadly passed away on 21 March 1999.
