Richard Evans was a semi-finalist from series 18. He beat fellow Scrabble expert Diane Pratesi in his first game, and racked up a further seven impressive wins to become an octochamp and #2 seed for the final rounds. In the quarter-finals, he trounced Mark St. John London, but lost the subsequent semi-final to Yoga, who would go onto win the series.
