Steve Briers first appeared in series 55 on 3rd November 2006, beating Richard Woodward 76-62. In his second game, he beat his opponent, Dean Rowley, 136-41, setting the fifth highest ever score and the second highest ever winning margin in Countdown history. He won six more games to become an octochamp and #1 seed of series 55. However, he was defeated in the quarter-finals by Phil Watson.
