The Apterous Summer U1000 of 2009 tournament was held from June 22 through July 26, 2009, on the Apterous website as part of the Apterous Summer 2009 series of tournaments. It was open to those whose Apterous rating, as recorded by the organiser Andrew Feist, was not more than 1000 during the registration period.
Tournament structure
The ten participants were split into two pools of five players, roughly equal in strength. These two pools then played a complete round-robin amongst themselves, with the players playing a cross-over match against an opponent from the other pool on what would normally be their bye week. Each fixture was a best-of-three series of standard 15-round games. The winner from each pool would then play an extra finals match for the overall championship (unless this match was already played as one of the cross-over matches).
Overall results
Pool A finished with the following results (only counting games in the round-robin):
- James Hall 4-0
- Liam Tiernan 3-1
- Julie Russell 2-2
- Andy Wilson 1-3
- Ian Dent 0-4
Pool B finished with the following results (only counting games in the round-robin):
- Shaun Hegarty 4-0
- Phil Collinge 3-1
- Jason Turner 2-2
- Niall Seymour 1-3
- James Levison 0-4
Since the finalists James Hall and Shaun Hegarty had not yet played, they then played a final match, which James Hall won 2-0 (82-76, 61-52) to take the overall title.
For the final standings, the non-finalists are ranked based on their results from all five games; players tied on number of matches won are sorted then by games over .500, then by points scored per game. The results are then:
