Episode 66 was broadcast on 10 June 1983, and was the first qualifying preliminary of Series 2.

Russell Byers played David Myerscough, with Russell Byers winning 54 – 39. The Dictionary Corner guest was Gyles Brandreth.

This was the first game to be played under the current rules, under which a 9 letter word scores 18 points rather than 10, and contestants have to get within ten of the numbers game target to score any points; previously contestants still scored 5 points just for being closer to the target, even if they were more than ten away from it.
