Glynn Leaney first appeared toward the end of series 39, beating Noel Godson in his first appearance, and won a further five games before making way for the final stages of that series (Glynn had won enough games to qualify as a seed, but he instead opted to continue his run into the following series). Glynn won the first two shows of the series to become an octochamp, and he returned for the final stages as #2 seed. he beat Nancy Roberts and Pamela Roud on his way to the final against Terence English. The final was a close affair, with Glynn trailing by just four points going into the crucial conundrum. However, neither player was able to unscramble GOPHERITT into TIGHTROPE, meaning Glynn lost both the final and the series. Glynn would return to Leeds four years later to film a special game, a rematch of his final against Terence, but this time Terence won even more comfortably.
