Hypertouch is a variant on Apterous. It is a combination of Hyper and Touchdown.
Letters rounds
Any letter can be substituted for another. So, for example, the round HYPERTOUCHDO does not have a 12 in the standard rules (the maximum in Hyper would be RHODOPHYTE); but, if we imagine the C or U to be substituted for an S, we can declare RHODOPHYTES for 11. Players do not have to make explicit which letter they are substituting.
Numbers rounds
This is played to Hyper rules, but numbers are drawn with replacement. For example, asking for 8 small might yield 5, 7, 9, 7, 5, 7, 7, 5. Other than the drawn numbers, the game is the same as Hyper.
Conundrums
One letter in the conundrum must be substituted with another before solving the anagram. For example, if the conundrum was CLODHOPPERFD, the answer would be CHILDPROOFED because a P from CLODHOPPERFD can be substituted with an I. The solution to these Hypertouch conundrums is guaranteed to be unique, so there's only one letter that can be substituted to give a solution.
