Carl Varney
From Countdown
Carl Varney was 16 at the time of appearing on Series 12 of Countdown.
He was at Mid-Warwickshire College of Further Education, and took a bus-load of his college friends with him to Leeds! He used to go regularly to Scrabble clubs in Leamington Spa and Rugby, and was tutored by Phil Appleby, who has done extremely well in the National Scrabble Championships, and has previously appeared on Countdown and Countdown Masters.
Carl now lives in Coventry with his partner, and still watches Countdown every day.
