Duckdown

From Countdown

Duckdown is a variant played on Apterous.

The numbers format was later used for "Numberists" specials on ZoomDown.

Letters Rounds

Similarly to Spoilage, the object is to play the longest word, but featuring none of the letters in the selection.

Nick Hewer played a set-up version of Duckdown (merely looking for lots of words, rather than a long word) in Episode 7469, with the round set up by Paul Zenon. In the event, Zenon counted up to five, and Hewer extended it to 12.

Example

Rnd Selection Nick Hewer Score Paul Zenon Others Max.
ABCJKMPQZ TWELVE 6 – 0 THREE DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE*, DISINTERESTEDNESSES*, HETEROGENEOUSNESSES*, OVERSENSITIVENESSES*, UNINTERESTINGNESSES*, UNTRUSTWORTHINESSES* 19

Numbers Rounds

Numbers rounds are almost the same as the regular game, except you must exclude at least one of the starting numbers from your solution. It's up to you which one(s), but you don't need to specify which number(s) you are excluding. In other words, your solution must not use all of the starting numbers. Selections contain 7 numbers and targets are between 101 and 1999.

Example

Rnd Selection Player One Score Player Two Others Max.
1 50 25 3 10 9 8 5 → 1428 1428 ☓ 0 – 7 1427
(25 + 3) × 50 + 10 + 9 + 8

Best: 1428 = 50 × 3 × 10 − 9 × 8

2 50 1 8 2 4 5 10 → 587 587
(10 + 2) × 50 − 8 − 5
10 – 17 587
(10 + 2) × 50 − 8 − 5

Conundrums

In the conundrum round, you will be shown an eight-letter word with the vowels removed. The solution is the original word (which will be unique). The solution may be plural etc and might be obscure.
