Episode 97

From Countdown

Episode 97 was broadcast on 17 October 1983, as part of Series 3.

Allan Simmons played William Bradford, with William Bradford winning 38 – 31. The Dictionary Corner guest was William Rushton, and the lexicographer was Yvonne Warburton.

This was Simmons' eighth appearance (ninth if his draw is included), making him the first player in history to have reached the final game of an octochamp run. However, he was beaten by Bradford, who would coincidentally go on to become the first octochamp in history.
