Junior Countdown

From Countdown
For the 3-day mini-series featuring young contestants in Series 47, see Junior Championship. For the reduced seven-letter variant of Countdown, see Countdown Junior.

Junior Countdown was an unsuccessful pilot for a planned children's series of Countdown. It was recorded on 26 November 1982, hosted by Gyles Brandreth with Ted Moult in Dictionary Corner. It was never aired, and it is not clear whether the recording still exists. The programme is mentioned in Gyles Brandreth's diary entry for that date as published in his 2009 book Something Sensational to Read in the Train. He said on a 2012 guest appearance on Countdown that the concept was a 'disaster'.

Until 2010, children and teenagers under 16 were permitted as contestants on the adult version of Countdown.
