Bradley Cates solving the conundrum is his eighth victory in Series 69.

Bradley Cates was a contestant in Series 56 and an octochamp in Series 69. As of his January 2007 appearances, he was an 11-year-old schoolboy from Southport, Merseyside. As of his return in October 2013, he was eighteen. He also appeared at the unofficial Countdown tournament, CoBris 2007.

In his original run, he won three games before losing to serial quiz show contestant and future Series 82 octochamp Ian Volante on a crucial conundrum. He returned over seven years later, starting off with a victory in a double century game against Apterite Mark Hartnett. He achieved five more centuries during his run to become the No. 4 seed. Cates returned on 17 December and defeated Alex Fish in his quarter-final, before returning the next day to face off against No. 1 seed Dylan Taylor. In a game that was noticeable for a controversial conundrum scramble, Cates was defeated but ended his run with another century. His final point total after 14 games is 1,414 points.

Since his appearances on Countdown, he had graduated in Accounting and Finance. On 9 May 2017, he appeared as a contestant on Fifteen to One as a 21-year-old and made it to the final three.

In September 2024, he appeared on Only Connect as part of the Introverts team.
