Laura Smyth (née Taylor) was a contestant in Series 51 and on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. As of her Countdown appearances, she was studying floristry, and was from London. She was also an English teacher until 2021 when she switched to become a comedian under her married name. Subsequently, she appeared in an episode in 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown 20 years after her original appearances (although the episode itself was recorded two years prior).
In September 2021, she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in which she had underwent treatment for six months before returning to the public eye. The effects of her treatment were visible in her Catsdown appearance in which she had lost her hair.
