Amy Agbisit-Berry, known as Amy Berry, was an octochamp in Series 91. She was a maths lecturer, former insurance executive and bibliophile. She originally hailed from the Philippines, but is since of Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk.
Heat games
Amy had a respectable debut against one-time-winner and train conductor Ashley Upchurch, pulling away early and not really allowing Upchurch to get anywhere close, although he did solve the conundrum. She followed that up with seven further victories to become the fifth and final octochamp of the series, while also securing the No. 4 seed in the process.
Her second victory saw the first tie-break conundrum on-screen in over a year, with Berry spotting the tie-breaker OCCURRING to narrowly stay in the champion's chair. After six further wins with three century games as well under her belt, Amy racked up a tally of 750 points and the nickname "The Final Straw" from Colin, and into a quarter-final match-up against Christine Smith.
Finals
In the aforementioned quarter-final match, Amy laid a marker early on with ARMPITS and FINAGLES, and from there only continued to build her lead to end the match before the final numbers game, which Christine did solve to claw back some points. And after neither of them cracked another difficult conundrum, Berry marched onwards into a semi-final matchup with No. 1 seed Rhys Jones.
