Philip Aston is a regular Apterite who made his online tournament debut in the sixth edition of AptoSOS against the event's organiser Matt Morrison, losing his only game by four points. He has passed his audition and is likely to appear on the show in Series 78.

He is also a competitive Scrabble player and in 2016 attended his first two Scrabble tournaments: his first was the Rotary Open Scrabble Championship of Wiltshire, held on the outskirts of Swindon, followed by Nailsea. He competed in the second of three divisions on both occasions and finished 17th out of 18 and 6th out of 20 respectively. In Nailsea, where Gareth Williams emerged as Division A victor, he won a “ratings prize” of £10, having gained more ratings points than anyone else in his division. During his tournament experience he played past Countdown contestants David Lawton and Yvonne McKeon. [1] [2] He uploads “Word of the Week” videos on the Mind Sports Academy website.[3]

His father, Simon, won £8,000 on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2005.
