: You don't need to have game records.  This particular project is concerned with taking a programme recap which has already been written and published elsewhere (typically the old yahoo group), and ensuring that the version here on the wiki covers all that it needs to.  Follow the unchecked recaps link I gave before, and go to the bottom of that list (currently episode 4492).  That shows a wiki formatted recap (with a link to the yahoo group recap) and almost certainly has a lot missing.  For example, most of the recaps were done before the days of countgen, so it's quite likely that more equallers, and possibly some beaters will be available.  Often the TTTs don't appear properly, and have to be added. Sometimes, rounds are completely missing from the wiki version, and have to be added. Have a look at the recap style guide for guidance on the format of a wiki recap. Again, ask if you've got any questions.  drawoh 19:06, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm helping out wherever I can as well. I'm generally going through a few games that I have on Sky+ to check conundrum times and teatime teaser details which are missing from a few of the original recaps. I'll try not to get in anyone's way! -- Crispy 12:05, 26 June 2009 (BST)

Revision as of 11:05, 26 June 2009

I thought those of us working on this project could benefit from a centralised location to identify ourselves, discuss stuff and generally do team bonding. So here it is.

92.4% completed
7,888 checked of 8,541 recaps

New data

The first set of Jim's data (for Series 51) has been uploaded: see Recent Changes. This data contains very few mistakes, but we should still check it carefully against the original recap. It does contain some omissions, including:

 • DC's words (I've starred all words by default - remove the stars as appropriate.)
 • Numbers solutions (from contestants and CV)
 • Conundrum times.
 • Tea-time teasers.

This should be added in, as far as the original recap allows (a lot of the TTTs are lost, which is not too tragic really.) Feel free to add questions or comments below. Series 52 - 56 should follow before the week is out. Soo 12:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Series 52 and 53 are up. Dumper 12:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Series 54, 55 and 56 are up. Dumper 14:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
You can see a list of potential errors flagged by the dumper here. Once the octochamp runs are done, fixing these is probably top priority. Soo 15:18, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Inserted lots of TTTs, although not many of the clues. Dumper 18:17, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Overview

Our aim is complete, correct rounds for every possible episode. This is equivalent to emptying Category:Unchecked recaps and all its subcategories. Since this is 1018 articles, it is obviously a long-term project. The first priority is to clear articles in the root category, because these are mostly done already and we can make rapid progress through them.

Correcting mistakes in existing rounds is fairly straightforward, but for full details of our house style and handling of tricky points (like misdeclarations), see our style guide.

I suggest the following rough priorities. (For a complete list, see below.)

I also suggest working from most recent to oldest, especially because it's quite hard to check the words for the oldest ones.

Excellent! As you've probably found, there are loads of skeleton recaps which haven't yet been looked at by a human. They need a varying amount of editing to bring them to a standard comparable to that which the new recap writer produces. A list of these skeleton recaps is here http://www.countdownwiki.com/Category:Unchecked_recaps. I suggest starting from the bottom, i.e. the most recent. Any questions, just ask.  :) drawoh 21:15, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

You don't need to have game records.

Points of discussion

Bug notice

Some of the episode pages are coming up blank. If you edit the page, you'll see that all the text is there but for some reason doesn't appear. The page can be edited as normal and will fix itself as soon as it is saved. Soo 15:37, 22 September 2007 (BST)

Notation for misdeclarations

How do we indicate words disallowed due to being misdeclared? The usual ☓ is likely to cause confusion. Soo 13:49, 19 September 2007 (BST)

H's new recap priority

 • Since start of S59, I've been trying to keep the latest series up to date. At present, there are only three recaps outstanding from S59.
 • After those are done, I intend to have all games of the COC13 contestants completely recapped on the Wiki by the time the COC13 starts on 12th Jan.
 • Another priority is to update the Style Guide, to reflect recent usage. drawoh 14:42, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Useful template

For recaps which are completely broken, the following template layout may be useful. However in most cases it's easier to use "Make wiki recap" feature of the the Recap Writer.

Something to do

I'm bored; please could someone assign me a fun checking task?

It rather depends what you call fun. There are still plenty of recaps which need checking - see here. But if you're needing a change from recap checking, here's something I've stored in the back of my mind for one of those incredibly boring days. Last Friday, Jeff said it was Gyles' 300th appearance. Our records show it was his 296th as a DC guest. Mike Brown's countdown page makes it three more than us. My guess is that Mike Brown has got it correct, and Jeff's 300 includes the one time Gyles appeared as a contestant. It could be useful to compare the wiki with the countdown page to see where our discrepancy of three lies, and correct the wiki records if necessary. After that there are a further 200 guests to check (only 199 if you exclude Martin Lewis, who hasn't yet made his first appearance.) drawoh 08:49, 4 May 2009 (BST)
