Episode Cats106

From Countdown

Episode Cats106, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 17, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 11 January 2019, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 17.

Regular Sean Lock and Acting Team Captain Alan Carr were the contestants, along with Johnny Vegas and Lou Sanders who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Johnny Vegas, winning by 36 – 24 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown skateboard.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was The Brett Domino Trio, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, in view of Alan's marriage the previous year, his prop was a baby doll that looked like him and attempted to "breastfeed" it behind a custom-made curtain which depicted him doing that; he then squirted out milk in random directions to "show" he was indeed doing it.

2) In Round 1, the clock music was replaced by an alienated version of it and at the same time, Jimmy climbed up a ladder hanging from the top of the studio which presumably came from a UFO, after which he was "teleported" back to his seat with an additional pair of alien eyes. The studio lights were also dimmed and the table lights turned to green as well.

3) In Round 3, Alan asked Rachel to pick the letters selection, to which she did and alternated between Vowels and Consonants. Also, during the 30 seconds in the same round, Jimmy mashed up chocolate and "made" a sculpture of Johnny's head. Later, Alan brought out the "top part of his wedding cake" for Johnny to try and the latter ended up biting one of the figurine's head off.

4) During the 30 seconds in Round 7, "Jimmy" went to the side of the studio and "smashed" three watermelons using his head, only for the last one to cover his head to which after some murmuring from the audience or directors, he commented he looked like a Hawaiian Darth Vader.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: This is the first episode of this version of the show to officially use the ODO (Although the ODE3 was hidden from sight), more than 4.5 years after the normal version had done so.
