Brett Davids was a contestant in Series 70, and an octochamp in and the runner-up of Series 92. He was a dentist, working in and around the East Midlands during his first stint. But as of his second set of appearances, he was living/working specifically in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, specialising in endodontics. He is also an Apterite.
Appearances
Series 70
Brett made his debut in 2014, where he notched up three victories before coming unstuck against eventual octochamp and series runner-up Andy Naylor, although he did turn PNICOTINE into INCEPTION to have the last word but his first run officially ended after that.
Series 92
Heat games
However, almost 11.5 years later, he returned and kicked off by unseating incumbent champ and fellow returnee Angus Faraday in a double-century game although Faraday did solve the conundrum in a flash. Davids then followed that up with seven further centuries, in which there were two notable achievements; the then highest score of the series with 138 and a max game in his third appearance, which was only the fifteenth-ever known occurrence in Countdown history. He managed to spot five nine-letter-words: MORALISED, FORNICATE, CREAKIEST, RECOATING and NECTARIES.
Additionally, despite picking one-large for most numbers selections, Dr. Davids showed skill with some four-large tricks when under pressure and in spite of some notably tricky opponents, he never faced a crucial conundrum throughout his heats. After dispatching fellow Apterite Phil Stanton in his last preliminary to secure octochampdom, Brett also joined the 900 club with a total of 916 and became the provisional No. 1 seed for the finals with just over four months of shows to still be broadcast; Colin Murray and Rachel Riley anointed him with his nickname "The Winking Goliath", as a final send-off.
Finals
Ultimately returning as the No. 2 seed, he was drawn into combat with No. 7 seed Mark Allen. But Davids showed that none of his cutting edge play had been lost by maxing 14 rounds in the process as well as qualification to the semis after an easy final numbers round. He finished with a flourish by quickly turning HERRDIARY into HAIRDRYER to rack up a final score of 116; his fourth-highest on the show to date.
