Gary Buxton played John Mayhew, with John Mayhew winning 106 – 58. The Dictionary Corner guest was Lesley Garrett, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
The conundrum was initially INNERGLUE, but as the board turned over the G fell off, with Whiteley remarking "where's the glue!?" which resulted in a retake and a new conundrum. [1] INNERGLUE would eventually be used a conundrum 14 years later in Episode 7188.
