Chris Kirby played Fiona Wood, with Fiona Wood winning 96 – 89. The Dictionary Corner guest was Christopher Biggins, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
NOTE 1: Both contestants were returning contestants with Kirby having appeared in Series 60 and Wood in Series 20; as this was the first series grand final since Series 72 where both contestants have had a previous run on the show.
NOTE 2: By solving the conundrum, Wood became the first female champion since Kate Ogilvie won Series 39 back in 1998 and only the sixth in the show's 42-year history.
