Reg Jones played Shirley Scott, with Shirley Scott winning 57 – 45. The Dictionary Corner guest was Ned Sherrin, and the lexicographer was Della Thompson.
Round 1 of this game is one of only two known rounds in history to have featured two Zs, as well as the only known round in which maximum-scoring words containing two Zs were available.
